FRANKFORT, Ky. (WEVV) — The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approved more than $1.5 million in funding for agricultural diversification and rural development projects across the Commonwealth. The approvals were made during the board’s monthly meeting on Jan. 16, 2026.
“Our economy thrives when we see and nurture the value of our agricultural producers,” said Commissioner of Agriculture and Board Chair Jonathan Shell. “The projects awarded today show the importance the board places on farming and how diversification strengthens our state’s economy.”
Gate Keeper Cattle Company, LLC received approval for up to $110,000 in multi-county funds to support expansion and construction of a 4,000-foot structure. The Green River Area Agent Association was approved for up to $12,900 to help support participation in the Cooperative Extension Leadership Experience.
The Owensboro Farmers Market, Inc. was awarded up to $45,000 in Daviess County funds for a commercial kitchen. The Washington County Board of Education secured up to $100,000 to construct a 40-foot by 60-foot agricultural working facility.
The board also approved seven County Agricultural Incentives Programs totaling $1,232,512 in Bracken, Breathitt, Breckinridge, Lewis, Mason, McLean and Simpson counties. McLean County received $56,400. These programs offer cost-share assistance to help Kentucky agricultural producers improve and diversify their farm operations.
In addition, a Deceased Farm Animal Removal Program totaling $2,500 was approved in Garrard County. Three Shared-Use Equipment Programs were approved as well, totaling $43,375 in Breckinridge, Garrard and Pulaski counties.
The Youth Agricultural Incentives Program received approval for three programs totaling $49,000 in Bracken, Breathitt and Mason counties. Application periods and deadlines for CAIP and YAIP will be announced locally.
