LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are being recognized for a quick response that may have saved a woman’s life outside the Hall of Justice.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies staffing the magnetometers at the downtown Louisville building noticed a woman lying on the porch area Friday morning and quickly realized she was in medical distress.

The deputies moved the woman inside to get her out of the cold and assess her condition. They then administered Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, after which the woman began to respond.

She was taken to a local hospital for further treatment. Her condition has not been released.

The sheriff’s office noted that one of the deputies involved is a former EMT, and officials said that experience was crucial in assisting the woman until EMS arrived.

“This incident underscores the importance of the work our MAGS deputies do every day,” Chief Deputy Col. Steve Healey said. “Their awareness, training and professionalism made the difference in a critical moment.”
