LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky leaders have released a sweeping new highway plan that could reshape roads and bridges statewide.
Gov. Andy Beshear and transportation officials announced the 2026 Recommended Highway Plan, a six-year proposal totaling nearly $9.5 billion and including more than 1,350 projects focused on safety, smoother traffic flow and stronger connections.
The plan combines federal, state and local funding to repair aging infrastructure, widen major highways and advance large bi-state projects aimed at boosting jobs and economic growth. Lawmakers will decide funding for the first phase during the 2026 legislative session.
Major projects include the Interstate 69 Ohio River Crossing in Henderson, widening Interstate 71 in Oldham County and replacing Frankfort’s historic “Singing Bridge.” Hundreds of millions of dollars each year are also dedicated to routine bridge and pavement repairs.
If approved, the plan will guide Kentucky’s transportation investments for years, affecting daily commutes, commercial travel and regional development across the state.
