WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer faced repeated interruptions during a Wednesday press briefing about potential contempt of Congress proceedings against the Clintons, turning the event into a tense scene with Capitol Police involvement.
The briefing came after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton missed a scheduled deposition related to the committee’s Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Shortly after Comer began speaking, a man identifying himself as a “citizen reporter” began shouting questions, including whether Clinton’s sworn statements had been entered into the record.
Comer repeatedly tried to continue, telling the man, “No, I’m still talking. I’m still talking,” and later called the protester a “paid disrupter,” saying, “I feel like the Clintons have initiated the war room.” The man shot back, insisting, “Sir, I’m not paid, you’re paid by the people.”
At one point, Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., intervened with a quip, telling the protester, “Hey, the Cartoon Network called, and they want you to take your job back.”
The situation escalated as the protester approached Comer while he attempted to leave, making apparent physical contact. Capitol Police stepped in to separate the man from the lawmaker, ultimately letting him go after photographing his identification.
Comer wrapped the briefing by acknowledging the disruption: “It’s unfortunate this disrupter was here. We’ll be happy to answer questions throughout the day about this.”
The chaotic scene highlighted the heightened tensions surrounding the committee’s ongoing investigation and Clinton’s missed deposition.
