LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An Indiana man wanted for murder in Georgia was killed Saturday after crashing the victim’s vehicle during a police chase in Kentucky.

Police said the suspect, identified Sunday as 30-year-old Ryan Ebler of Martinsville, Indiana, was wanted for allegedly killing his girlfriend at a home in Georgia on Saturday and then setting the house on fire, according to LEX18 News.

Authorities said the victim’s vehicle was stolen from the scene and reported to a national database. Police later spotted the vehicle on Interstate 75 near Berea. Troopers and officers with the Berea Police Department attempted a traffic stop, but the driver did not yield, prompting a pursuit.

Kentucky State Police said the chase continued north on I-75 at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour before moving onto Interstate 64 in Franklin County. Near Frankfort, Ebler reportedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with a semitruck traveling in the opposite direction.

Ebler was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Dalton Police Department in Georgia, firefighters discovered a woman dead inside a burning home on Grimes Street shortly before 6 a.m. Saturday. Because of the suspicious circumstances, police were called to investigate.

While officers were on scene, a woman contacted police to report that her brother had confessed to killing his girlfriend at the Grimes Street home and requested a welfare check. By that time, investigators had already identified him as a person of interest. After discovering the victim’s vehicle was missing, police entered the license plate into a national stolen vehicle database.

Around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Kentucky State Police notified Georgia authorities that the vehicle had been located, leading to the pursuit that ended in the fatal crash.

Investigations into the crash, the fire and the homicide are ongoing. The woman found dead in the Georgia home has not yet been identified.
