LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Residents of Louisville’s Klondike neighborhood are reeling after an early Sunday morning shooting at Lenny’s Lounge left four people injured, including a 17-year-old. One victim is in critical condition, and the others are between 18 and 21 years old.
Louisville Metro Police said officers responded around 5:30 a.m. to reports of multiple people being shot. Two victims were transported to UofL Hospital, while the other two were self-transported to a hospital before being transferred.
Neighborhood resident Pradip Betwal, who has lived in Klondike for 15 years, said he had never witnessed violence like this in the area. “I’m very sad to hear that news,” he said. “Hopefully those families are good and those that got shot are OK. I pray for them.”
Louisville City Councilmember Josie Raymond, D-10, said constituents informed her about the shooting. She noted that the lounge has long caused concern in the family-oriented neighborhood, which is home to local businesses and a daycare adjacent to the lounge.
Raymond said the lounge has repeatedly disappointed the community since it opened nearly a year ago. “This is the last straw. We don’t want this business open in our neighborhood another day,” she said, calling for the lounge to be permanently closed.
Louisville’s Alcoholic Beverage Control issued an emergency suspension of the lounge’s alcohol license while investigating. Alcohol sales are now prohibited, though the lounge can remain open during the investigation.
The lounge owner was arrested Sunday for possessing a firearm in violation of a domestic violence order, unrelated to the shooting. LMPD’s Non-Fatal Shooting Squad is leading the investigation. The current condition of the other three victims has not been disclosed.
