JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Nebraska man was arrested Monday night after authorities allegedly found him with more than 55 pounds of methamphetamine wrapped to look like Christmas presents.

The Jeffersontown Police Department said in a Facebook post that on Dec. 22, officers working alongside the Kentucky State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration were investigating 23-year-old Jacob Talamantes in the 11500 block of Bluegrass Parkway. Officers said he arrived in a vehicle and allegedly attempted to leave but was detained outside a nearby business.

Court documents show the arrest happened during a large-scale narcotics investigation. Investigators used K9 units to search Talamantes’ 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, and the dogs alerted officers to the presence of drugs in the trunk.

An arrest citation stated that although the packages “came without ribbons and without tags,” detectives discovered “over 50 pounds of suspected methamphetamine from within the intricately wrapped packages, boxes and bags.”

Jacob Talamantes, 23, of Nebraska, was booked into the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections on Dec. 23.

Authorities said Talamantes told investigators he was driving from Iowa to traffic the drugs.
