LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Snow transformed Louisville into a winter wonderland overnight, and Louisville Metro road crews continued treating streets early Tuesday morning.
The Louisville Metro area received 4.8 inches of snow overnight. Metro Public Works began brining roads on Monday ahead of the forecast. Brining prevents snow from freezing to the pavement.
Applying brine is the first step in a three-part snow removal process that also includes salting and plowing. All of the planning and preparation mark the first test of changes made after a deep freeze in January led to widespread complaints about the city’s snow removal efforts.
Following last winter, consultants recommended increasing the use of brine. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously during their morning commute, as slick spots may still appear, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated areas.
People should also stay alert for icy sidewalks and parking lots where they could easily lose their footing. Residents can check Louisville Metro’s Snow Map for updates on road treatment progress. Kentuckians are encouraged to stay cautious, avoid distractions while driving, and slow down.
