Louisville, KY – A calm and chilly start to the week will turn unsettled as widespread rain and scattered thunderstorms move into central Kentucky and southern Indiana on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville. Today stays dry with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-50s to lower 60s.

The NWS says rain chances climb sharply after midnight and continue into Tuesday morning, with most areas seeing an 80 to 100 percent chance of rainfall throughout the day. Showers will be frequent, and thunderstorms are expected to develop late in the morning and through the afternoon. Communities such as Louisville, Frankfort, Lexington, Elizabethtown, Bowling Green, and Madison, IN could see several rounds of rain.

Forecasters report that while most storms should remain below severe limits, a few stronger thunderstorms may produce small hail. The best chance for stronger cells appears to be in the afternoon when instability slightly increases.

Rain tapers off late Tuesday evening as the system moves east, though wet roads and standing water may continue overnight. Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid-to-upper 40s and lower 50s.

An active weather pattern remains in place, with more rounds of rain possible from Thursday through Saturday. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on forecast changes, especially any shifts in thunderstorm timing or strength.
