A senior at Louisville’s St. Xavier High School is giving back to the community in honor of his mother.

DyLon Boone launched the nonprofit Touch of Terra in memory of his mom, Terra, who died unexpectedly in January 2024.

“I wanted to continue the legacy of giving that my mother left behind,” Boone said in a release. “She always kept backpacks with seasonal items in the car and gave them out to people in need.”

The nonprofit’s first project involved assembling 500 ready-to-go backpacks for homeless individuals in Louisville. Volunteers gathered Sunday at St. X to pack the bags with essentials such as hygiene products and clothing.

So far, Boone has raised more than $12,000 for the organization.

The backpacks will be distributed to Wayside Christian Mission on Thanksgiving Day.
