A Texas man, identified as Brian S. Mandel, has been indicted by a grand jury for allegedly making threats against Louisville football head coach Jeff Brohm, his family, quarterback Miller Moss, and other members of the program.

According to court records cited by the Louisville Courier Journal, Mandel faces multiple counts of second-degree terroristic threatening and one count of attempted extortion. A Jefferson Circuit Court judge issued a warrant for his arrest, and his bond was set at $100,000. As of Tuesday evening, Mandel had not yet been taken into custody.

The attempted extortion charge reportedly involves an attempt to “obtain property valued at $10,000 or more” from Moss by “threatening to inflict bodily injury,” court filings revealed.

Louisville offensive coordinator Brian Brohm, Jeff’s relative, was also among those allegedly targeted. The indictment states that the threats occurred between November 8 and 9.

The Cardinals had recently suffered an overtime loss to the California Golden Bears in Louisville.

An unnamed university police officer is listed as the complaining witness. Authorities have not yet released a motive, and the indictment did not include a detailed narrative of the events.

In a statement, a University of Louisville athletics spokesperson said the department will continue cooperating with law enforcement.

“We commend law enforcement for their swift and decisive action in addressing this matter,” the statement read. “Threats of violence have no place in our community or in sports, and we will continue to work closely with authorities to ensure a safe environment for all.”

“The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community remain our highest priority,” the statement continued. “Our student-athletes and coaches deserve to compete, learn, and grow without fear. We are committed to supporting them and reinforcing the values of respect, integrity, and accountability that define our program.”

Mandel is scheduled for arraignment on November 17, pending his arrest.
