The Metro Nashville Police Department has partnered with departments in Knoxville and Louisville to launch the first-ever Tri-City Police Leadership Academy, a new program aimed at strengthening leadership within law enforcement.

The inaugural sessions began this week in Knoxville, will continue in Louisville on November 3, and conclude in Nashville during the week of December 8, with graduation scheduled for December 12, according to Metro Nashville officials.

The three-week academy focuses on developing police sergeants, lieutenants, and professional staff through sessions led by veteran law enforcement leaders, including retired Chief Art Acevedo and Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

“Leadership in policing is not about rank — it’s about influence, trust, and the daily choice to set the example,” said Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake, as reported by Metro Nashville.

The Tri-City Police Leadership Academy will train 30 participants from 10 regional agencies. Sponsored by the three city police departments, the program is offered at no cost to participants.

Louisville Metro Police Chief Paul L. Humphrey described the academy as “a powerful investment in the future of law enforcement leadership.” Among the instructors is retired LAPD Chief Michael Moore, as the program works to enhance leadership skills and promote stronger cooperation among regional law enforcement agencies, according to Metro Nashville.
