LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning residents to prepare for heavy rain and gusty thunderstorms late Saturday into Sunday as a strong cold front moves across Kentucky.
The region is expected to remain dry through Friday, with highs in the 70s and low 80s, before storm chances increase sharply over the weekend. The system could bring widespread rainfall of 1–2 inches, with some areas receiving more than 2 inches, raising the possibility of minor flooding in low-lying locations.
Forecasters also warn of gusty winds of 20–30 mph and isolated heavy downpours, though the overall risk of severe weather remains low.
Residents are advised to monitor forecasts closely and be prepared for changing conditions late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. While the rain will help alleviate dryness, heavier localized pockets could still lead to brief flooding.
Meteorologists emphasized, “Confidence in widespread rain is high. The main impacts will be gusty winds and isolated flooding from heavier rain bands.”
Additional updates will be provided as the weekend approaches.
