A small plane crashed overnight in Orange County, Indiana, but the pilot miraculously survived with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Indiana State Police (ISP).

Authorities said they received a call around 10 p.m. on October 4 from the Louisville airport and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about a possible downed aircraft near the Orange and Lawrence county line.

Throughout the night, multiple state troopers and local first responders scoured a heavily wooded area searching for a Lancair fixed-wing, single-engine plane.

Around 4 a.m. on October 5, officials located the wreckage in the woods near Old Vincennes Road. The pilot was still inside the aircraft and was rescued with only minor injuries. Due to the dense terrain and steep hills, responders had to carry him out on a stretcher.

Indiana State Police said the successful rescue was possible thanks to the coordinated efforts of several agencies working together.

The FAA has now taken over the investigation into the crash.
