Three people were injured Sunday evening after a three-vehicle crash involving a Sumter County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident happened around 6:10 p.m. on October 11, 2026, near the intersection of US-27, Buenos Aires Boulevard, and NE 136th Avenue.
According to state troopers, a 22-year-old male officer driving a marked Sumter County Sheriff’s Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound on Buenos Aires Boulevard in emergency mode. As the patrol car approached the junction against a red traffic signal, it collided with a northbound Chevy Equinox driven by a 65-year-old Belleview lady who had entered on a green light.
The force of the impact led the deputy’s vehicle to rotate across the road, colliding with a westbound Honda Civic halted at the NE 136th Avenue intersection. A 19-year-old male from Grand Island drove the vehicle.
All three drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency responders took the deputy and the Equinox driver to local hospitals for medical care, while the Civic driver was treated on the spot.
