A school in Clermont County notified parents and staff Friday that one of its students was reportedly found with a gun in their possession and detained.
Dr. David Fultz, Superintendent and CEO of West Clermont Schools, stated in an email that when staff at the middle school learned that the student had a pistol, the school resource officer promptly isolated the student and identified and secured the firearm. The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office took the student into custody.
“We appreciate the prompt action of all parties involved, particularly the middle school leadership and the Clermont County Sheriff’s Department,” Fultz stated in an email.
Fultz stated that no vocal, written, or physical threats were made against any student or staff member, but the incident does not minimize the gravity of the situation.
“We all have a role to play in ensuring our schools remain safe places for learning. Please take time to remind your child that they should tell an adult if they hear about the possibility of a weapon at or near school or if they know about a student who has a weapon. Saying something when you see something truly makes a difference and it likely helped prevent today’s incident from escalating,” Fultz continued.
