Seven people were apprehended and one man is still wanted by authorities in connection with the fatal shooting of a 72-year-old man during a burglary in Prairie Township earlier this year, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
On February 8, about 10:40 p.m., deputies arrived to the 200 block of Postle Boulevard for a report of a deceased person inside a home. Deputies then discovered 72-year-old Harold Moore with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The sheriff’s office stated that detectives discovered that various valuable items, including Moore’s vehicle, had been stolen from the home.
According to the sheriff’s office, patrol deputies discovered the stolen vehicle on West Broad Street in Columbus at 3 p.m. on February 9. The truck was stopped, and the driver, Roger Daugherty, 44, was apprehended.
Authorities then tied Daugherty to the homicide. Court filings state that during an interview with a detective, Daugherty admitted to shooting Moore, stealing his possessions, and dumping the gun he used into the Scioto River.
Since his arrest, the sheriff’s office stated that detectives have identified seven other people who allegedly assisted Daugherty in concealing evidence or receiving stolen merchandise from the burglary. Six of these people were arrested on July 9.
