A teen was taken into custody with a fake ID after telling enforcement it was a graduation present from her parents.
An officer stopped 19-year-old Gabriella Anais Prado at Hancock Road and State Road 50 around 6:10 a.m. Tuesday, according to a Clermont Police Department arrest report. Radar confirmed that her white Honda Accord was going 70 mph in a 50-mph zone.
After handing up her driver’s license, Prado indicated that she lived near Tampa. She was late for work in Orlando, so she sped, according to the report.
The officer saw her license was displayed vertically, indicating she was under 21, and inquired whether she had any vapes in the vehicle. She admits to having two vapes, purchased by a friend. According to the complaint, the officer issued a penalty for speeding and then searched her vehicle.
Before commencing, the officer asked Prado if there was anything else illegal in the vehicle that he should be aware of. She burst into tears and informed them that her bogus ID was in the vehicle. It was a Georgia state license with a photo that matched her actual driver’s license. According to the report, the birthdate on the phony license indicated that she was over the age of 21.
Prado claimed the bogus ID was a gift from her parents when she finished from high school, and she used it to purchase wine. She’d only done it once. According to the report, she was aware that it was unlawful, but her parents assured her that she would not face any legal consequences.
A later search of the vehicle turned up three nicotine vapes and one probable THC vape, according to the report.
Prado was detained on suspicion of possessing a fake driver’s license. She was booked into Lake County Jail and released after posting a $2,500 bond.
