Man taken into custody after drug bust in Aiken County, sheriff says

A man has been taken into custody on multiple drug trafficking and weapons charges following a search warrant at a home, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Aiken deputies, narcotics investigators executed the warrant on Wednesday at the home on Windsor Road.

Authorities stated they discovered roughly 2,700 grams of cocaine, 9 pounds of marijuana, 65 grams of methamphetamine, 45 dosage units of oxycodone, a semi-automatic weapon, and approximately $8,000 in cash.

According to police, Aiken County Code Enforcement took 11 pit bull dogs from the residence and filed animal cruelty charges.

Charles E. Johnson Jr. was arrested and charged with cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm while committing a violent felony, and animal cruelty.

Johnson was free on bond at the time of his arrest for earlier trafficking charges arising from a 2022 narcotics investigation at the same property, during which detectives claimed to have taken approximately 500 grams of cocaine and 3,100 grams of methamphetamine, according to the sheriff’s department.

“The amount of narcotics seized in this investigation represents a significant threat to the safety of our community.” Aiken County Sheriff Sawyer said. “What makes this case even more concerning is that the suspect was already out on bond for serious trafficking offenses stemming from a previous search warrant at the same residence.”

Let this serve as a reminder that the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to aggressively pursuing drug traffickers and holding repeat offenders accountable. We will continue working every day to protect the citizens of Aiken County from those who choose to profit from the sale of illegal drugs.”

Authorities said that the inquiry is still ongoing.
