One person died and eight others were hospitalized following a horrific rollover incident in Mesa on Sunday morning.
According to investigators, just before 9 a.m., a sedan driver ran a red light along State Route 24 and Signal Butte Road, crashing with a huge passenger van. The hit forced the van to overturn and rest upside down.
According to police, there were ten passengers inside the van; one of them died and seven others were hospitalized. The victim was later identified as 51-year-old Evon Zubah.
The car driver was also hospitalized. According to police, all eight people who were hospitalized had minor injuries and are likely to live.
Mesa police reported that impairment did not appear to be a factor. However, it is unclear whether the sedan driver would face charges in connection with the incident.
“Our thoughts are with Evon’s family, friends, and all those impacted by this tragic incident,” the department stated.
