A man is dead after being hit by a vehicle on I-10 in Phoenix following him either falling off an overpass or walking across the freeway late Saturday night, according to authorities.
Officers accompanied the Arizona Department of Public Safety near the 12th Street overpass on eastbound I-10 after learning about a man who may have fallen onto the freeway.
Phoenix Fire crews arrived to the scene around 11:40 p.m. and pronounced Max Jeffrey, 66, deceased, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Police say it’s unclear whether Jeffrey fell from the overpass or stepped into traffic until they review video evidence.
The driver who struck Jeffrey remained at the site to answer police questioning. They told police that they suspect Jeffrey fell from the overpass before the collision.
