A Louisville-based nonprofit is expanding access to hearing care by bringing free screenings to students in Hardin County.
HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. — KY HEARS, an initiative of Heuser Hearing Institute, is providing on-site hearing screenings for elementary students across Hardin County Schools over the coming week.
The effort aims to identify hearing issues early and reduce barriers to learning by ensuring students receive timely support.
When additional care is needed, KY HEARS connects students and families with diagnostic testing and follow-up services at no cost, as long as state funding remains available.
Launched in 2022, KY HEARS focuses on improving access to hearing healthcare across Kentucky, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
The program uses mobile clinics, permanent service locations, and a traveling audiology team to deliver screenings, testing, and follow-up care directly to communities.
“Every child deserves the chance to fully participate in the classroom,” said Brett Bachmann, CEO of Heuser Hearing Institute. “By bringing no-cost hearing screenings directly into Hardin County schools, KY HEARS can help identify hearing needs early and connect families with the right next steps.”
KY HEARS currently operates in 31 counties statewide and plans to continue expanding its reach.
