Jeffersontown police warn residents about traffic text scam

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Authorities are alerting residents to a new text message scam circulating in the area.

The fraudulent messages claim recipients face court enforcement over traffic violations in “St. Louis County, Ky.” — a place that does not exist.

Jeffersontown Police say the messages are part of an ongoing wave of scams targeting Louisville residents.

“If you received a text message demanding payment for a traffic offense – do not fall for it,” the department said on social media. “These messages may look official, but they are fraudulent.”

Officials urge anyone who receives such a message to delete it immediately and avoid clicking any links or scanning QR codes.

“Legitimate agencies will not request payment through unsolicited text messages,” police added. “Please share this to help protect others in our community.”
