A sixth-grade basketball coach in Kentucky died in a head-on crash Friday night, according to Kentucky State Police.
The crash occurred around 6:25 p.m. on Kentucky 49 (Bradfordsville Road) in Marion County. State police said Mason May, 21, of Lebanon, was driving north when a Ford F-150, traveling south, crossed into the northbound lane while attempting to pass another vehicle and struck May’s Honda Civic head-on.
Authorities pronounced May dead at the scene, according to state police.
He coached the sixth-grade basketball team at Saint Augustine School, a private Catholic school serving students from preschool through eighth grade.
“He put his heart and soul into coaching,” the school wrote in a Facebook post. “He made such a difference in the lives of our St. A boys in his short time here.”
The driver of the F-150 sustained minor injuries and was taken to Spring View Hospital. State police said he was in a no-passing zone when he collided with May’s vehicle.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash.
