LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A violent and unprovoked attack in Louisville has raised serious concerns after police say a man assaulted a stranger with a cleaver, allegedly because he believed the victim was a foreigner.
Random Attack on Louisville Street
The incident happened Monday around 5:30 p.m. along Preston Highway in Louisville. According to police, the suspect, Jeremiah Page, was walking on the sidewalk when he suddenly approached a man he did not know and attacked him without warning.
Brutal Assault with a Cleaver
Investigators say Page was armed with a cleaver-style knife and struck the victim multiple times. Authorities reported:
- The victim was hit twice in the head
- He was also struck once in the shoulder
- The weapon used was described as a cleaver
The severity of the attack left the victim with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the victim:
- Was briefly able to speak with officers
- Does not speak English
- Was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition

Police Arrest the Suspect
Officers located Page a short distance from the scene, still carrying the weapon. After being taken into custody:
- He was read his legal rights
- He allegedly confessed to the attack
Authorities say the swift arrest helped prevent further danger.
Disturbing Motive Revealed
During questioning, Page reportedly made alarming statements, telling police:
- The victim was “trespassing on his land”
- He believed he owned the surrounding area
- He targeted the man because he was a “foreigner”
These claims have raised concerns that the attack may have been motivated by bias.
Charges and Court Proceedings

- Attempted murder
- First-degree assault
He appeared in court shortly after his arrest, where a judge set his bond at $750,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 17.
