Kentucky State Police are investigating a crash that involved a school bus and a deputy’s vehicle on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened in Whitley County along Cumberland Falls Highway at the intersection of Ward Cemetery Road around 3 p.m.

Preliminary findings indicate that a Whitley County Sheriff’s Department cruiser was traveling on the highway with its emergency equipment activated while responding to another accident.

KSP reports that the Whitley County school bus tried to turn onto Cox Smith Road from the highway when the driver entered the cruiser’s path, causing the two vehicles to collide.

“Several children were taken to Baptist Health in Corbin with minor injuries and were later released. The WCSD Deputy was treated for minor injuries and released,” KSP reports.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash.
