LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Publix Super Markets Inc. is planning an expansion into Prospect, according to Louisville Business First.
The Florida-based grocery chain bought Prospect Point Shopping Center, located at 9505 and 9549 U.S. 42, for $20 million, according to a deed filed this week with the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office.
The 13.5-acre property sits near River Road, close to a Kroger store and other businesses including Evergreen Liquors, Domino’s Pizza, and Brownsboro Hardware & Paint.
Plans to redevelop the shopping center were first submitted in 2024 by the previous owner. Soon after, Publix emerged as a potential buyer, and the project is now expected to move ahead under its ownership.
Initial redevelopment plans included a nearly 56,000-square-foot anchor grocery store, along with upgrades to entrances, exits, and sidewalks.
It is still unclear when construction will begin or when the new Publix location will open.
The acquisition marks another step in Publix’s expansion across the Louisville area. The company has opened several stores locally in recent years and has additional locations planned along Blankenbaker Parkway and at the former Mid City Mall site.
Publix has not yet responded to requests for comment.
