FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WXIX) – Two firefighters were injured while battling wildfires in southeast Kentucky over the weekend, according to the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
Crews responded to a fire along KY-1498 in Floyd County, which officials said covered about 115 acres. Authorities noted that nearby residents are not currently at risk.
Officials said the injuries happened when the fire’s pattern suddenly shifted as crews were working to contain the flames.
One firefighter was treated at a local hospital and later released.
The second firefighter suffered burn injuries and was airlifted to UC Medical Center, where he remains under treatment.
