NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) — Elevated wildfire danger is expected Sunday night as dry conditions and breezy weather persist across the region.

Officials are discouraging outdoor burning, including campfires, fire pits, and fireworks, due to low humidity, dry ground, and ongoing winds that could allow fires to spread quickly.

As of Sunday evening, a wildfire in the Land Between the Lakes region of southern Kentucky had already grown rapidly, expanding from 30 acres to 150 acres in just a few hours.

Humidity levels are expected to increase slightly starting Tuesday and remain higher through the rest of the week, which should reduce the wildfire threat compared to the weekend. However, recent lack of rainfall means vegetation will stay dry, and daily breezes will continue to create less-than-ideal conditions for burning.

Breezy weather is also expected in Nashville on Monday.

Rain chances will remain limited for the next few days before increasing later in the week. The best opportunity for rain is expected Saturday night ahead of an approaching cold front.
