LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — The Kentucky General Assembly has passed a bill that would establish a new type of license for concealed carry of firearms and other deadly weapons.

Under House Bill 312, individuals between the ages of 18 and 20 could obtain a provisional license instead of a standard one, allowing them to carry concealed firearms, ammunition, and other deadly weapons.

Currently, Kentucky law requires individuals to be at least 21 years old to receive a standard concealed carry license.

According to the bill, those with provisional licenses could apply for a standard license once they turn 21 by submitting a paper application through their county sheriff’s office or an electronic application through Kentucky State Police.

HB 312 passed the Senate with a 30-7 vote on Friday, March 20, after previously passing the House 73-17.

The bill now heads to Gov. Andy Beshear’s desk.
