Troop 2582 is Kentucky’s only Girl Scout troop exclusively for girls with disabilities, and members are now selling cookies to support their year-round activities — including a trip to King’s Island.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) — Now in its fourth year, Troop 2582 continues to grow as a unique and inclusive space for girls with disabilities across the state. The troop is fully self-sustaining, using cookie sales to fund everything from uniforms and badges to special outings.

A Troop Inspired by One Girl’s Vision

The idea for the troop began with 7-year-old Luciana Faraci, who uses a wheelchair.

“She said, ‘Mommy, if people see me and I’m in a wheelchair, they need to know that there’s a troop for them. I want a troop just for disabled girls,’” said Stacy Faraci, Luciana’s mother and the troop’s leader.

Today, Troop 2582 has 15 members.

“We serve girls with mild to severe disabilities, the whole gamut,” Stacy Faraci said. “We have girls in wheelchairs, girls with vision issues, developmental disabilities, the whole range.”

Monthly Meetings, Badges, and Growing Confidence

The scouts meet once a month to learn new skills, earn badges, and participate in activities such as horseback riding and day camps.

Stacy Faraci said she has witnessed significant personal growth among members.

“We had a girl who’s been with us since the beginning and she’s very timid and didn’t like to speak or be involved — just very introverted,” she said. “A few months ago, she approached me and wanted to plan a meeting herself. And she did it and did a wonderful job.”

Cookie Sales Power the Program

Troop 2582 does not ask parents for financial contributions.

“We are a completely self-sustaining troop, which means that our cookie sales are 100% of what we use all year and we never ask parents for anything,” Stacy Faraci said. “So, in order to do all of our things, we need to sell cookies.”

The troop must sell about 2,500 boxes to cover uniforms and badges. To fund their goal of a trip to Kings Island, members aim to sell around 4,000 boxes.

This year’s top-selling flavors include Lemonades and the new Exploremores cookie. One scout also recommended Adventurefuls.

“They taste like brownies,” said troop member Karis Hays.

“Cookies are absolutely 100% what fuels us in every single way,” Stacy Faraci said.

How to Support the Troop

Troop 2582 will sell cookies at the Chinoe Kroger on Friday from 4–6 p.m., Saturday from 12–2 p.m., and Sunday from 12–2 p.m. this weekend.
