LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Kentucky Humane Society is set to expand its presence in Louisville.

The nonprofit has secured a $1 million grant to support its planned $37 million Animal and Community Campus on Orchard Avenue. According to its partners at Louisville Business First, KHS has raised $26 million toward the total project cost so far.

A rendering of the new Animal & Community Care Campus, designed by KNBA Architects, outlines the vision for the expanded facility.

KHS said the grant will help establish what it describes as Kentucky’s largest high-volume spay and neuter clinic.

Once operational, the center is expected to perform approximately 13,000 surgeries each year, helping ease overcrowding in animal shelters across the state.

The new campus is projected to open sometime in 2027.
