KENTUCKY — A Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday morning for several counties in northeastern Kentucky, as forecasters warn that heavy rainfall could trigger localized flooding.

The National Weather Service in Charleston, West Virginia, reported that excessive rainfall may lead to flooding in Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lawrence counties. Creeks and streams are already running high, and additional heavy rain could push them out of their banks.

Meteorologists say fast-moving thunderstorms could drop between three-quarters of an inch and one inch of rain in a short time. When combined with elevated stream levels and ongoing runoff, this rainfall may cause flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas, particularly near small streams and creeks.

The watch is expected to stay in place through Friday morning. Officials are urging residents in vulnerable areas to monitor updated forecasts and be ready to act if Flood Warnings are issued.

Emergency managers also advise drivers to avoid flooded roadways and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, especially during periods of heavier rain.
