Bell County — Authorities arrested a Kentucky man in Cumberland Gap on Friday after a grand jury indicted him on a first-degree fetal homicide charge. Investigators say he repeatedly abused a pregnant woman, leading to the death of her unborn child.
A Bell County jury indicted 35-year-old Taylor DeHart on the charge. The Bell County Sheriff’s Office said DeHart repeatedly assaulted the pregnant woman and caused blunt force trauma to her abdomen and placenta.
Authorities arrested DeHart at 6 a.m. at a home on Antler Drive in Cumberland Gap. The arrest involved assistance from the United States Marshals Service, the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, and the Blount County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and K-9 units.
Officials also sought DeHart for failing to appear in court on a fourth-degree assault charge, two Kentucky probation violations, and a probation violation tied to an armed robbery charge through the Georgia Department of Community Supervision.
Authorities booked DeHart into the Claiborne County Jail, where he awaits extradition to Bell County.
