Shively church damaged in overnight 3-alarm fire

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) — A Shively church suffered significant damage after an overnight fire.

The Highland Park Missionary Baptist Church on Shanks Lane, near Cane Run Road, caught fire just after midnight Thursday morning.

PRP Fire, along with Louisville Fire, Shively Fire, Fairdale Fire, Fern Creek Fire, and Okolona Fire, responded to the call shortly before 12:15 a.m.

Crews arrived within three minutes to find flames coming from the roof at the rear of the building. Additional resources were called in, and the fire was upgraded to a three-alarm fire, with more than 50 firefighters and medical personnel on site.

A Louisville Fire Department spokesperson said one firefighter sustained minor injuries from a fall due to weather conditions. EMS treated the firefighter on scene, and he was later taken to a hospital and released.
