Kentuckiana is gearing up for a winter storm, with hardware stores seeing increased demand for supplies and Louisville Metro’s Snow Team stepping up efforts to keep roads safe.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Shovels, salt, sleds, and more are quickly selling out at Brownsboro Hardware as residents prepare for winter weather expected to impact Kentuckiana this weekend.
“People are definitely starting to get nervous and want to get prepared,” Brownsboro Hardware owner Doug Carroll said. “We placed a $60,000 order for additional inventory arriving early Friday. That includes many types of snow shovels, sleds, faucet covers, car scrapers, lock de-icer, spray de-icer, and all the items you need to be ready for this winter storm.”
Carroll also said he ordered 2,000 sleds for those hoping to make the most of the snowfall.
Louisville Metro’s Snow Team said it is fully prepared for the incoming weather.
Public Works Director Bill Bell said crews loaded trucks Tuesday night and were ready early Wednesday morning to treat roads as the first snow began falling.
“We’ll be prepared for whatever comes our way this month. And I’m confident that we will have the streets as clear as possible this weekend for everyone’s safety,” Bell said.
Bell added that crews are expected to be back on the roads Thursday and possibly Friday.
Public Works officials said road treatments have been a major focus this year, as early preparation gives crews the best chance to manage snow and ice before accumulation begins.
Bell urged residents to stay off the roads during the storm if possible, and reminded those who must travel to give snow plows plenty of space.
“The main thing during these types of events is to take it slower,” he said.
