KENTUCKY — Leslie County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, because of frigid conditions impacting eastern Kentucky.
School officials said dangerously low morning temperatures and wind chill values prompted the delayed start. The later opening is meant to provide safer travel conditions for students and staff, especially during early morning bus routes.
Forecasters warn the area could see some of the coldest weather of the winter season, with morning wind chills dropping well below zero. These conditions can create health risks, including frostbite, particularly for children waiting at bus stops.
Parents and guardians are urged to make sure students are dressed appropriately for the cold and to stay alert for any further announcements from school officials. Because conditions may change, families should continue monitoring official district communications for updates.
