LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A GoFundMe page has been created for a former University of Louisville student who was shot in the Park Hill neighborhood on Jan. 11, 2026.

Louisville Metro Police responded to a shooting at the Duramart gas station on South 7th Street early Sunday morning. Officers found a man inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound.

The victim, Tyler Bright, was transported to U of L Hospital in critical condition and remains in the ICU. Police believe Bright was shot from a vehicle leaving the area.

Bright’s aunt, Suzanne Schmidt, started a GoFundMe to support his recovery. She said the bullet struck his neck and has caused limited movement in his legs. The funds will help cover medical costs and support Bright’s parents, who live in Michigan and are displaced while caring for him. The page has raised over $22,930 toward its $35,000 goal.

Bright, a freelance play-by-play broadcaster from Kalamazoo, Michigan, graduated from U of L in May 2025 with a degree in Sports Administration. During his time at U of L, he wrote for The Louisville Cardinal, reported on air for ACC Network, and anchored for Cardinals Pulse. He also launched a college football podcast, Bright and Early, and planned to move to Iowa to continue his broadcasting career.
