LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville nonprofit dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness marked a major milestone Sunday, celebrating 522 consecutive weeks of service.
Every Sunday morning, Hip Hop Cares sets up near Interstate 65 and Broadway to provide meals, clothing, and support to those in need. The organization has now been operating for 10 years without missing a single Sunday, rain or shine.
Hip Hop Cares is a grassroots effort that relies heavily on social media to spread awareness and encourage community involvement.
“Anybody and everybody is always welcome to come down here on any Sunday morning, whether it’s hot, cold, convenient or inconvenient, comfortable or uncomfortable — we are down here,” said Jeff Gill, founder of Hip Hop Cares. “I strongly recommend people getting involved when it is uncomfortable because that’s when we learn and grow the most.”
In addition to food and clothing, Hip Hop Cares also works to connect individuals with critical resources, including housing assistance and mental health support, helping address both immediate needs and long-term stability.
