Air Force pilot Trey Whiteley bought a used Chevrolet truck online for $36,000 without seeing it in person. When it arrived, he discovered several issues the dealership never disclosed.

According to Motor1, the truck arrived with warning lights already on, including the check engine and oil change lights. Whiteley suspected the dealership hadn’t properly inspected the vehicle before selling it.

After taking the truck to another Chevrolet dealership for evaluation, mechanics identified a torque inverter vibration problem. At least two independent repair shops confirmed the issue, which Whiteley said is common in Chevrolet trucks.

The biggest shock came when he discovered the truck had been heavily modified. Despite the dealership claiming it had stock suspension, Whiteley found a full 4-inch lift kit and numerous aftermarket parts installed. In a TikTok video, he noted that the modifications were well-done using quality parts, but he never agreed to purchase a modified vehicle. The dealer should have disclosed these changes before the sale. Similar incidents have occurred with other buyers, like a TikToker who found milky oil in her used Ford truck.

Fixing the torque inverter problem and removing all the aftermarket parts cost Whiteley nearly $6,000—essentially returning the truck to stock condition, which it should have been when sold.

The dealership offered to take the truck back and find him another vehicle, but the sales representative resisted giving Whiteley a $6,000 check, citing potential losses for the dealership. Whiteley had already signed paperwork and was making monthly payments.

The dealership also offered to perform the repairs themselves, but Whiteley does not trust them, fearing their service department may not complete the work properly. He prefers to take the truck to an official Chevrolet dealer for the repairs.

Dealership mistakes can be costly, as similar incidents have shown when vehicles suffered damages due to improper inspections or repairs.
