LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bitter Arctic air moving into Central Kentucky Monday has prompted school closings and delays across the region. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. on Dec. 15, with lows Sunday night falling into the single digits.

FOX 56 Meteorologist Jordan Burns warned, “If you are outside for any extended period, you will want to layer up and bundle up because any uncovered skin is susceptible to frostbite.”

Fayette County Public Schools have already called a snow day. Other districts across the state are reporting either full closures, NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) days, or delayed starts. Some examples include:

  • Closed Today: Clay Co., Estill Co., Fleming Co., Floyd Co., Franklin Co., Harrison Co., Jackson Co., Lee Co., Leslie Co., Paris City Schools, Rowan Co., Scott Co., Wolfe Co.

  • NTI Day Today: Anderson Co., Bath Co. (2-hour delay), Bell Co., Berea Independent, Bourbon Co., Breathitt Co., Carter Co., Clark Co., Garrard Co., Harlan Co., Jackson Independent, Jessamine Co., Madison Co., Montgomery Co., Morgan Co., Nicholas Co., Powell Co., Robertson Co., Morgan Co., Woodford Co.

  • Delayed Starts: Kentucky State University (2-hour delay), Knox Co. (2-hour delay), McCreary Co. (2-hour delay), MCTC-All Campuses (3-hour delay), St. John School (1-hour delay), St. Mary School (1-hour delay)

Parents and students are advised to check local school communications for the most up-to-date information, dress warmly if travel is necessary, and take precautions against frostbite and other cold-related risks.
