Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore has been detained by police.
Moore, who began his coaching career at Louisville in 2009 as a graduate assistant and later served as the Cardinals’ tight ends coach from 2012–13, was located and detained in Saline, Michigan, according to ESPN’s Dan Wetzel. He was then turned over to Pittsfield Township police for an investigation into potential charges.
The development comes after Moore was fired for cause earlier Wednesday following a Michigan investigation that allegedly found “credible evidence” he had “engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”
At this time, it remains unclear why he was detained.
No public details have been released about the inappropriate relationship that led to his firing. According to his University of Michigan profile, Moore married his wife, Kelli, in 2015, and they have three daughters.
Following his dismissal, Biff Poggi was named interim head coach. Poggi previously served as interim coach earlier this season while Moore was serving a university-imposed suspension for games against Central Michigan and Nebraska related to the Connor Stalions sign-stealing case.
