KENTUCKY — An Ohio resident faces multiple charges following a high-speed pursuit Monday evening involving Knox County deputies and Barbourville police.
Authorities said 34-year-old Michael Carvoo of Canton, Ohio, was reportedly driving recklessly on US 25E around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 1, traveling over 95 mph in a 55 mph zone through Barbourville.
Court documents indicate Carvoo allegedly attempted to force deputies off the road during the chase. Speeds reportedly reached up to 120 mph as deputies and Barbourville officers pursued him. Carvoo ran multiple red lights, nearly caused several head-on collisions, and almost struck multiple vehicles.
The chase ended when Carvoo turned onto Old Pineville Pike, lost control, and struck an embankment. Officers pulled him from the vehicle after he allegedly refused to exit.
Carvoo was charged with eight offenses, including first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, reckless driving, running red lights, speeding 26 mph over the limit, resisting arrest, failure to wear a seat belt, and failure to produce an insurance card.
He is being held at the Knox County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Dec. 4.
