LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – A judge has scheduled a trial date for Shannon Gilday, the man accused of killing 32-year-old Jordan Morgan, daughter of former Kentucky lawmaker Wesley Morgan, during a 2022 home invasion.

According to FOX56, the trial is set to begin on May 1, 2026, and is expected to continue through the end of that month.

Gilday’s defense team had sought to remove the death penalty from consideration, arguing that he suffers from a serious mental illness. However, the judge ruled that the death penalty will remain a possible punishment.

“Every time we come here, we feel like it’s another wound being opened, and we’re ready to have some closure, to put this behind us,” said Mica Nicole, a friend of Jordan Morgan. “I’m sick of seeing him in the courtroom.”

A status hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 20.
