Fentanyl crackdown results in 16 arrests; missing teen located during sting operation

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced the conclusion of two recent Fentanyl Strike Force operations in North Mississippi, which resulted in six felony, five misdemeanor, and five DUI charges.

The operations also resulted in the execution of one search warrant, six Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers, and the capture of one juvenile runaway.

The operations were carried out in Southaven on October 14 and in Tupelo on October 15.

The Tupelo operation was a collaborative effort with District Attorney Jason Herring’s office.

The following agencies took part: Herring’s office, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, ICE, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the North Mississippi Narcotics Task Force, and the Southaven and Tupelo police departments.

“We will not tolerate predators peddling death in our communities,” Fitch stated. “My office is committed to building a network of law enforcement across the state with the tools and knowledge to disrupt drug operations and make successful prosecutions of these criminals.”

Herring stated that the fight against fentanyl is a daily battle worth fighting because lives are at risk, and he expresses gratitude to the Strike Force and the participation of local, state, and federal partners. Fitch’s office said over 900 law enforcement officers have been taught to handle fentanyl properly and work narcotics cases as part of the Strike Force initiative.
