Responding officers discovered a deceased male and an injured female in the parking lot. The female was sent to a hospital for treatment, but her condition was not immediately known. Police did not give an age for either victim.
According to Strockis, the shooting occurred after five persons in two vehicles met in the parking lot and got into an altercation. One car remained at the scene, but the passengers in another vehicle fled the parking lot and were apprehended in nearby Oakbrook Terrace.
According to Strockis, investigators were able to locate the car that fled the scene using license plate reader cameras.
Police were questioning three people who had been arrested. Strockis stated that authorities have yet to ascertain the purpose of the meeting or the motive for the shooting.
Witnesses informed CBS News Chicago that the mall was placed under lockdown, which has since been lifted. Police said that the mall was open Wednesday afternoon.
