Two people are facing criminal charges after leading Jennings police on a high-speed chase down Interstate 10 Tuesday night in a carjacking.
Around 6 p.m., officers were notified of a carjacking in East Baton Rouge involving two armed individuals and a stolen maroon Dodge Charger Scat Pack.
Police immediately discovered the Charger on I-10 near the La. 97 exit in Jennings.
When cops attempted to pull over the car, the driver accelerated and fled, resulting in a chase that ended when the car lost control and crashed just west of the La. 26 exit in Jennings.
Officers arrested Amya Brooks, 19, and Dylon Thomas, 22, both of New Orleans.
During the search of the vehicle, authorities discovered around two ounces of marijuana wrapped in individual baggies, as well as a Glock handgun with an extended magazine.
Brooks was also wanted on an active warrant in the New Orleans region for simple robbery.
Brooks and Thomas were booked for the following charges:
- Possession of stolen property over $25,000
- Felony property damage
- Fleeing from officers
In addition, Thomas is charged with drug distribution and carrying a firearm alongside illegal narcotics, while Brooks is charged with drug possession.
