A 65-year-old Palm Desert woman is in arrest on a murder charge after a fatal assault Friday morning, according to investigators.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office responded to a “unknown trouble” complaint at 9:47 a.m. in the 35000 block of Gateway Drive. The incident occurred on a road inside a commercial shopping center, near a tiny gated neighborhood south of the Interstate 10 Monterey Avenue interchange.
“Upon arrival, deputies located a subject suffering from traumatic injuries consistent with a physical assault,” the sheriff’s office reported in a news statement on Saturday. “The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Detectives from the department’s Central Homicide Unit came, recognized the culprit at the scene, and detained her without incident. The woman was recognized by authorities as Vicky Kim, 65.
Kim was taken and put at the John J. Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of murder.
Officials have yet to publicly identify the victim.
The Central Homicide Unit has taken over the ongoing investigation. Law enforcement officials ask anyone with relevant information to contact Central Homicide Unit Investigator Chua at (951) 955-1700 or Palm Desert Station Investigator Mitroff at (760) 836-1600.
