Woman apprehended after attempting to bring gun into Rib Fest

A Braddock woman is facing many charges after allegedly bringing a registered pistol into the security screening area at Rib Fest and later fighting with officials outside Acrisure Stadium.

According to a criminal complaint, Pittsburgh Police were working an off-duty detail at the festival on Saturday night when stadium staff alerted them to an inebriated, unruly woman at Gate B.

Police identified the woman as Jalaya Monet Sudduth, 25. According to the lawsuit, security found she possessed a registered handgun while going through metal detectors.

Sudduth was told she couldn’t enter the private gathering and was urged to leave the firearm in her car, according to police. According to the complaint, she continued toward the event and became more disruptive as cops took her to the exit.

According to police, Sudduth yelled obscenities, flung her stuff, and resisted cops. After being handcuffed, police claim she managed to unlock one wrist and stand up.

According to the complaint, an officer then pushed Sudduth to the ground. Police say she kicked one officer in the legs and spat on another’s legs.

Sudduth later claimed to be suffering seizures and started convulsing, according to the complaint. Medics responded and transported her to the hospital for assessment. She was later released and transported to the Allegheny County Jail.

Sudduth faces two felony counts of aggravated assault, defiant trespass, disorderly behavior, and public drinking.

The event has taken several Rib Fest attendees by surprise.

“You have got to be kidding me. “Why on earth would anyone want to bring a gun into a place like this?” asked Pittsburgh resident Jonathan Gesaman.

Another festivalgoer, who was visiting Rib Fest for the first time on Monday, described the security process as simple.

“It was easy,” Claire Fischer stated. “They checked through security; they were making sure everything was good.”
