A 31-year-old Winter Haven man is in prison following a Friday night disturbance in the Inwood area that involved two knives and many victims, according to investigators.

Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to an armed disturbance complaint at around 11:30 p.m. on September 4, 2026, to a residence on Avenue O NW.

According to sheriff’s records, an intoxicated Christopher Vazquez Alvarez attempted to start a fight with a male resident inside the house. The victim tried to de-escalate the situation by leaving the property, but Vazquez Alvarez followed him outside for a short distance.

Vazquez Alvarez then returned inside the house and entered a bedroom occupied by another victim, a woman. According to reports, he grabbed the woman’s face and pushed her.

Following the altercation in the bedroom, Vazquez Alvarez got two knives from inside the house and returned outside. He approached the male victim again, brandishing a knife in each hand. The two men got into a violent brawl, which ended with Vazquez Alvarez being knocked to the ground.

Vazquez Alvarez fled on foot as patrol units arrived. Patrol deputies, working with the sheriff’s office K-9 unit and Air Unit, apprehended Vazquez Alvarez a short time later and arrested him without incident.

Deputies took Vazquez Alvarez to the Sheriff’s Processing Center, where he was arrested on many charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two felony counts of violence, false imprisonment, stalking, and disorderly conduct.
